Enjoyed very much this show at the Tate Britain today... worth seeing. Picasso had huge influence and sometimes without us knowing...

 

Great little discovery though in the information in the little programme and actually on the walls of the exhibition. In the section highlighting the influence on David Hockney, it reads '...It taught him that an artist need not adhere to a single style...'

PAINTERS VERSUS THE WORLD - CONCEPTUALLY.

In today’s ‘Contemporary Art’ world, it seem to me that painters who can actually paint -never mind able to draw - are the subject of a sort of set of un-mentioned set of rules and regulations whereas other, more ‘new-media friendly’, conceptual, installation artists have the privilege of not being bound by these constrictions. These artists’ work may change dramatically in concept and visual manifestation from project to project, residency to residency, site to site etc.
