Lupe Cunha

Painter, photographer and printmaker working in oils and water media.

Profile CV Gallery

Lupe Cunha originates from Brazil, the country which has inspired her use of colour to the present day.

She started her artistic life as a photographer over 40 years ago, first in Chicago in the 70's where she was inspired by the Abstract Expressionists and the frozen waters of Lake Michigan, then moving back to Brazil where she was inspired by the colour work of Helio Oiticica and the mountains and sea of Rio, before finally settling in the UK where artists like John Piper and Patrick Heron continued to inspire her work (and where the milder weather cooled it down somewhat).

Her work continues to be in an abstract, figurative style. The compositions for paintings are usually inspired by her travels, photographs and personal memories.

Since joining Cuckoo Farm, Lupe has been running monthly art workshops. Taking ongoing exhibitions, both local and London-based (at Tate, the RA, etc.), as a starting point, she talks about the artist's style and techniques to inspire participants and then tutors each one independently to help them develop their own work.
