CELEBRITY SEEMS TO BE THE GOVERNING CRITERIA IN ASSESSING THE QUALITY OF SOME 'ART'...
IN THE TIMES TODAY... centre spread article, someone suggesting various examples of classic and contemporary art paintings/prints/sculptures in 3 price ranges up to £10000...
For Christmas presents...
OK, fair do's, nowt wrong with that in principle!
Until I saw an etching print by Tracy Emin - a figurative study one could loosely call it - selling for £3,500.
The criteria for inclusion in this article is clearly not one of good quality art... Emin's example is atrocious and only passable for about a 50p price tag..
What message is this sending out... draw like shit and con everyone into parting with their money?
Obviuosly, the quality of the Art is secondary to the level of celebrity of the person who spewed it out and the notoriety enhanced by the celebrity's 'asking price'.... So there!
