Graduate in Residence Scholarship

In partnership with Colchester Institute the scheme grants a graduate from the Colchester School of Art with a free studio space for a year. It began in 1993, in partnership with the school of art, and helps a graduate with the transition from college into the wider world of art and design with exhibition opportunities, mentoring and support.

Cuckoo Farm Studios provides a studio space for the period from the 1st August until 31 July - free of rent, service charge and insurance. Further benefits of the scheme are:
  1. Bursary of £750, to be released after agreement on proposed spending.
  2. Exhibition at the Hay Gallery, Colchester Institute.
  3. Tenants at Cuckoo Farm Studios will help and mentor wherever possible.
The Graduate in Residence will be expected to:
  1. Use the studio for creative practice.
  2. Produce work for exhibition at Hay Gallery.
  3. Talk to future prospective applicants.
  4. Favourably promote the graduate scheme.
  5. Use Cuckoo Farm Studios and Colchester Institute logos on publicity.
  6. Actively participate in arts events at Cuckoo Farm Studios.
  7. Treat the studios and the other tenants with respect.
Deadline for applications will be 30th June each year, a shortlist will be drawn up and interviews will take place at the beginning or middle of July. Prospective applicants should ask Jayne Knowles at the Colchester Institute or contact Cuckoo Farm for further information and an application form.
