Profile CV Gallery
Ruth is a painter whose work is concerned with colour, light and surface to reveal a sensory experience of her environment.  Her paintings are about physical and emotional connections conveyed through abstraction, emerging from place, walking, weather and time. Paint as material and process play their part and Ruth often makes her own paints, using pigments collected on her travels.  She regularly exhibits in the UK and beyond and is a member of Contemporary British Painting

She also works with film and place including The River Runs Through Us, a film and participatory project with sound artist Stuart Bowditch, funded by Arts Council England, that will be screened at various places along the river in summer 2018. Ruth is artistic director of the new River Stour Festival, a year long festival during 2018.

Other current projects include We Are The Weather, an arts and mental health project and Fabric: Silk Road, a cultural, ethnographic and travel project involving exchange exhibitions of silk between the UK and China and a journey back along the Silk Road.

Ruth has an MA Fine Art, Norwich University of the Arts, BA History of Art, University of Warwick and PGCE Art, Institute of Education, University of London. She exhibits widely and has had work selected for the Jerwood Drawing Prize and the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.
