Since 2000 I have been using found objects in my work, from personal accessories, domestic textiles, bric-a-brac and junk-shop furniture, to short-lived natural materials - fruit, flowers, germinating seeds, yellowing grass. The resulting installations and assemblages deal with the aspirations and stances we present to world, shot through with references to submerged tensions, inner chaos, to 'vanitas' and 'memento mori'.
Linked to the main tenant of vanitas - that all things must pass I am continually searching for ways to record and express change, and the passing of time. Recent works have included the daily round of daylight and the use of light, both natural and artificial as a means of producing form and image in the most direct ways possible. photograms, direct photocopies, pinhole cameras prints and camera obscura.
I have a particular interest in site-sensitive and site specific work. I also use large scale drawing, as a studio practice and to develop new pieces.
