In 1992, the tenant farmer, Colchester Arts Forum and Colchester Borough Council instigated the conversion and renovation of a number of redundant farm buildings into studios for artists and craftspeople.
Since 1992 Cuckoo Farm Studios has grown to become a valuable resource within the wider community, through collaborative links with local schools and colleges and a close relationship with the the contemporary art gallery firstsite.
Residencies are offered to established artists in the grounds and The Benham Gallery, whilst emerging talent is suppoerted through our New Graduate Award Scheme.
Other on-site facilities include a print workshop, which is open to members of the public as well as The Benham Gallery and a new meeting room, both are which are available for hire.
We are now self-managed and organise a variety of events throughout the year including annual open studios, exhibitions, slide taking opportunities.
Cuckoo Farm also runs a Graduate Studio Scholarship in partnership with Colchester School of Art
