STATEMENT:

Claudia Boese focuses on the aesthetics of environments underpinned by the process of painting.

Since completing her studies at the Royal Academy Schools she has been drawn to places which could be described as borderlands, geographically and psychologically. She has lived and worked in London, Berlin, the Baltic island of Rügen, Ireland, Spain and Poland. Since 2002 she has been based in the English coastal county of Suffolk .

Claudia Boese is not simply depicting her inspirations but is in engagement with the reality of the painting itself, its creation and the handling of materials.
