Previously working with charcoal as the main medium to produce large scale narrative drawings and highly detailed studies of individual natural objects, new possibilities have emerged through the production of non objective durational pencil and graphite exercises. Developed over the past months as part of a return to the fundamentals of mark making, with process becoming the significant driver, ongoing studio based explorations have now been utilized in the construction of new works, and a new direction in creative practice.
The evocation of a loose landscape feeling was not initially intentional, but instead the compositions have evolved organically as a response to the medium, as line has become form. Combinations of immediate and spontaneous marks, together with collaged selections following review and reflection of earlier constructs, have resulted in the reintroduction of a narrative and a more formal outcome.
Trained as a printmaker at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design, and East London University, drawing is central to my creative art practice.
