My art is textiles and my main interests are feltmaking, embroidery and surface design. I work in felt and stitch, using wet felting to create the main body of my work and add embellishments and details with stitch and needle felting. For me using wool fibres to create is a magical process offering me the opportunity to sculpt, paint and create wearable items starting with nothing but fibres and water worked by hand. Felt is an amazing tactile material that is soft, warm and comforting, a naturally renewable resource.
"After studying Horticulture and Textiles I unite these passions bringing the beauty of outside inside by using embroidery, surface design and felt making. I Craft beautiful objects that instil a sentiment of the outside and breathe life into fond memories of the coast and the countryside”
I studied Fashion Design at LCF where I realised my natural understanding and ability in pattern cutting and studied textiles at Colchester Institute where I concentrated on textile construction and surface pattern. Felt making is self taught through practise and self study.
I am an active member of the Embroiderers Guild, I hold the position of IT representative on the Colchester branch and the positions of Vice-Chair and Treasurer on the Eastern Region committee.
