Profile

STATEMENT:

I have been a practicing potter since graduating from collage in 1985, training initially in printmaking and then ceramics.

During this time I also successfully ran ‘Gallery Schomberg’ in Colchester, but closed this two years ago to concentrate on my own work, with my pottery workshop now being situated at Cuckoo Farm Studios where I work full-time.

Over the last 20 years my work has been included in many exhibition venues throughout Great Britain, such as Liberty’s, London: Open Eye Gallery, Edinburgh: Cecelia Coleman Gallery, St. Johns Wood: The Crypt-St Paul’s, the Barbican, and shown in France, Germany and the USA, with a large collection of ‘coffee and tea sets’ sent to Saudi Arabia.

A full CV (from 1985) and a library of images is available on my website www.pamschomberg.com

My ceramics are directly influenced by ancient pots and artefacts, with more contemporary influences being Gustav Klimt, Bernard Palissy, the Martin Brothers, Dave Roberts, Antonia Salman and Hans Coper. Predominantly I make non-functional one off pieces, but the range also includes wall hangings, jugs, display plates, cups and saucers, tea services and when I have time, porcelain jewellery.

The work is highly stylised with every piece being individually constructed and hand-built in porcelain, stoneware, or a combination of both. Incised and impressed marks are made into the clay and colour is included at all stages with the use of oxides, slips, body staines, glazes (dolomite or barium) and on-glaze luster's.
