Conversation 3:
Chaos and Order
18 July - 2 August 2026

After a series of conversations on the theme of Chaos and Order tried to define the two concepts and how they relate to our practice as artists and also to our lives.

Several artists use self imposed procedures including sequences and time frames when creating their work and considered how changing these practices might impact their outcomes.

We thought about trauma, sudden change and aging and how these can disrupt the rhythm and habits of daily life. Our discussions included both how Order can refine Chaos and how Chaos can disrupt Order.

We discussed the emergence of language, ritual and religion in human culture and how the placing of specific colours and forms can be experienced as a meditation or a dialogue with the medium.

We discussed the Order seen in nature and it's physical laws as well as unpredictable, destructive natural events. Some of these ideas have been explored more deeply in the work we are exhibiting today.

The opening event will take place on
Saturday 18 July from 12noon
at the Benham Gallery, Cuckoo Farm Studios
CO4 5HH

Our usual opening times are Saturdays and Sundays, 11.00 - 16.00 or by appointment.
