Renting a studio
We offer some of the most affordable artist studios in Essex.
We currently house 30 artists at various stages of their careers, working in a variety of media.
Studios, both individual and shared, can be accessed 24/7, are secure and all artist have access to onsite facilities.
Converted farm buildings include The Barn, Barn Courtyard, Asparagus Shed Studios and Benham Gallery Studio.
Converted residential buildings include The Cottage and The White House.
The average rents are between £80 to £130 per month.
Reduced rates for hiring the Benham Gallery and automatic inclusion in the annual site wide Open Studios event.
CFS fosters an environment of creative practice with peer support and encouragement.
Studio spaces are awarded to artists following an application which is scrutinised by the Committee.
Applications are assessed with reference to the following eight criteria:
An active commitment to their practice.
Clear intentions and ambitions for the future development and direction of their work.
An engagement with contemporary practice.
How workspace at CFS will benefit their practice.
That they will contribute to the studio intellectually and/or socially.
A willingness to contribute to public events such as Open Studios.
That they will contribute to the day-to-day running or management of the studios.
A desire to be part of a community of artists and craftspeople.
